Navy Dispatched To Search Area For Drugs
The Irish Navy is due to carry out a search of an area off the coast of Co. Galway, where bales of cannabis were discovered.
Fishermen discovered eleven kilos of the drug as they fished 50km out to sea on Friday and Gardai and Customs were alerted.
Three more packages were discovered by the same trawler the following day.
Five Navy divers left Galway at 6:30am on Wednesday on board the LE Aisling to head to site where the drugs were discovered.
They will use specialised search equipment, which uses sound waves to scan the seabed.
Gardai believe that the drugs may have been dumped from a ship that got into difficulties in the area ten years ago.

The Irish Navy has completed its search of an area off the coast of Co. Galway where bales of cannabis were discovered at the weekend. The LE Aisling spent Wednesday searching the area, using special sonar equipment to scan the seabed around 70 nautical miles west of Slyne Head.

A 25-year-old man has been arrested following a drugs seizure. On Tuesday (26 August), a planned search was carried out at a property in Ballynsheglish, near Castlerea. Inside the home, gardaí discovered 100 cannabis plants which were at various stages of growth. Gardaí have said they have an estimated street value of €80,000.

Cannabis Plants Worth €140,000 Uncovered In Leitrim
Cannabis plants worth an estimated €140,000 have been uncovered during a planned raid in Leitrim. Gardaí discovered approximately 175 cannabis plants at a house in Carraigall. It is understood the property was unoccupied and no arrests have been made in relation to the find.

Man Arrested Following Drugs Find
A man, aged in his 60s, has been arrested following a drugs seizure at a home in Celbridge, Kildare. A planned search was carried out at a property in Crodaun Forest Park in Celbridge, where gardaí discovered cannabis plants with an estimated street value of up to €62,000. The man was arrested at the scene.
