Man Dies In Cork City House Fire

A man, believed to be in his 50s, has died in a house fire in Cork City

The blaze at the man’s house in Roches Buildings, in Blackpool on the northside of Cork, started at around 4.00am this morning and the man is believed to have been living alone.

The man’s body has been taken to Cork University Hospital where a post mortem will be carried out and it is thought the fire was started accidentally.

The scene has been preserved for forensic examination and a full investigation is underway.

Missing Cork Man Found 'Safe And Well'
A missing 52-year-old man from Cork has been found 'safe and well', garda have reported. John Ryan was last seen in the Shanakiel area of Cork City on Wednesday, 24 May. However, Mr Ryan has now been located and no further action is required.

Woman Charged Over Suspicious House Fire
A woman has been charged in relation to a suspicious house fire in Co Louth last year. Following an investigation into the blaze, which occurred at Cork Street in Drogheda on 16 August last year, gardaí confirmed a 27-year-old woman has been charged in connection with the incident. A woman, aged 73, was seriously injured in the fire in 2014.

Man Killed In Cork City House Fire
An investigation has been launched into the death of an elderly man in a house fire in Cork City. Emergency services were called to reports of a fire at the Old Friary Place on Shandon Street at about 11:30am. The man, aged in his 70s, was pronounced dead at the scene. Gardaí are investigating the death but do not believe the fire to be suspicious.

Around 100 people gathered in Galway's Eyre Square on Monday evening to mark the one year anniversary of the death of Savita Halappanavar. A candlelight vigil was held to mark the death of Mrs Halappanavar, who died at Galway Hospital one year ago.
