New Sea Safety Centre Opens In Waterford

A new Sea Safety Centre will open over the weekend in a bid to help reduce drownings in Waterford.

The Boatstrand Sea Safety Centre will be officially opened on Saturday 11 August by John Leech, CEO of Irish Water Safety (IWS).

The new facility is situated 11 miles south-west of Waterford city. The project commenced in 1998 following the tragic loss of local fisherman Colm Whelan. It has been built with voluntary contributions, Waterford Leader Funding, and funding from the National Lottery.

In addition, the the site was donated to the project team by Waterford County Council and the O'Byrne family, who stated that they recognised the value that such a facility would bring to the area.
