Replica Viking Longship Due To Arrive In Dublin

A replica Viking longship is due to arrive in Dublin on Tuesday, following a two-month journey from Denmark.

The Sea Stallion is a replica of a Viking longship, which was built in the Irish capital in 1042.

The original vessel, the Skuldelev 2, is believed to have sunk in the Roskilde Fjord, near Copenhagen, around 30 years after it was built.

The remains of the ship were found in the 1960s, along with four others.

The Sea Stallion sailed into Dublin Bay on Tuesday, where it was greeted by the Lord Mayor of Dublin, Paddy Bourke, and dignitaries from both the Irish and Danish governments.

The Sea Stallion will be lifted by crane and delivered into Collins Barracks on Friday morning, where it will remain as part of a special Viking-themed exhibition, which will run until June next year.
