Flynn Pays RTÉ €1.23M
RTÉ have confirmed that payment in relation to the Flynn case is being made.
The Irish national broadcaster is owed almost €1.23 million following a court settlement over a failed libel action by Co. Mayo TD Beverly Flynn.
A pending bankruptcy proceeding against Ms Flynn had been adjourned as a settlement date of August 17 had been agreed.
Ms Flynn became embroiled in a court battle with RTÉ over allegations that she had been involved in assisting tax evasion. However, a jury decided that her reputation had not been damaged and awarded no costs. A further court ruling found that Ms Flynn should pay the entire costs of the trial €2.3 million euro plus €500,000 in interest.
Ms Flynn appealed the ruling to the Supreme Court but was unsuccessful.
RTE, which had commenced court proceedings to have Ms Flynn declared bankrupt, accepted half the payment.
Ms Flynn is expected to return to Fianna Fail later this year.
