Galway Boil Notice Lifted
The Director of Public Health today assured households that water supplies are now safe to drink.
Dr Diarmuid O’Donovan spoke to RTE Radio’s News At One and said advanced water screening treatments were now in place to ensure the removal of any harmful organisms.
The comments come after the lifting of the boil order in Galway city and county today, and the installation of the new ultra-violet treatment system at the Terryland water works.
In March, approximately 90,000 households were told to boil all water before consumption after the outbreak of cryptosporidium cases five months ago.
HSE West said levels of the disease had declined to a normal level and that, with the effective treatments in place, the boil order could now be lifted.
