Investigation Underway Into Laois Man's Death

Gardaí are investigating the circumstances of the death of a 55-year-old man in Co Laois on Sunday night.

Pat Burke was found dead in a downstairs bedroom in his home in Ballybrittas shortly before 11pm on Sunday night after Gardaí were called to the house.

A post-mortem examination revealed that he died from multiple blows to the head.

Mr Burke's wife Anne was also found in the house. She was also injured, but the injuries were not life threatening and she was taken to the Midlands Regional Hospital in Portlaoise for treatment.

A forensic examination was continuing at Mr Burke's home on Tuesday.

Mr Burke, a father of four, had worked as a groundsman at the Mount St Anne retreat centre at Killenard for the past five years.

Gardaí have appealed for anyone who was in the Ballybrittas area on Sunday afternoon or evening and may have witnessed anything suspicious to contact them.
