Two Remanded Over Donegal Drugs Seizure

A father and son from Co. Armagh have appeared in court in Co Donegal, charged in connection with the seizure of cannabis worth an estimated €500,000.

Kieran Smyth senior, 47, and his son Kieran Smyth junior, 24, appeared in court in Donegal yesterday. Both were remanded in custody.

Both men were arrested in Falcarragh on Monday after 50kg of herbal cannabis was seized at a house in an operation, which involved gardai, the PSNI and customs officials.

It is understood that a house in Armagh was also searched by officers as part of the same investigation.

Men Charged Over Cannabis Grow House
Two men have appeared in court in connection with the discovery of a cannabis grow house in New Inn, Co Tipperary. Gardaí uncovered cannabis plants worth an estimated €700,000 at premises in Boytonrath, Boreen, in Kileenasteena on Friday 01 May.

Donegal South West To Go To The Polls
A by-election is to be held on the 25th November for the Donegal South West constituency. The necessary 'writ was moved' in the Dáil by the Tánaiste and Education Minister Mary Coughlan. This came after the High Court ruled earlier this week that the Government was wrong to delay the election in a case taken by Sinn Fein.

Man Charged With West Cork Arson Attacks
A man has been charged with a series of arson attacks in Skibbereen, west Cork. 30-year-old Sean Byrne, of Bohernabreegha, Drimoleague, appeared at Clonakilty District Court accused of six separate arson attacks at a number of locations in Skibbereen.
