Navy Destroys WWII Mine Off Cork Coast

The Irish Navy has destroyed a World War II mine found off the coast in west Cork.

The mine, believed to be a German anti-submarine mine, was discovered early on Tuesday morning in Broadstrand Bay by a local fisherman.

The Irish Navy confirmed that the mine was safely detonated around 2pm on Tuesday afternoon.

The search for missing fishermen off the west Cork coast continues after two bodies were recovered two bodies today. The body of Egyptian fisherman Attea Shaban, 26, was pulled from the Tit Bonhomme by Garda divers at around 9.45am this morning.

Navy Joins Missing Fishermen Search
The search for two fishermen, missing off the east coast, is continuing with aid from the Navy. 26-year-old Ronan Browne and 41-year-old David Gilsenan, from the Skerries area, failed to return to Skerries Harbour after a lobster fishing trip on Friday. Naval patrol vessel Le Emer is co-ordinating the search in the Irish sea.

Man Killed In Co Wicklow Paragliding Accident
A man has died following a paragliding accident in County Wicklow. His body was discovered on Sunday 12 April after a search was launched when he failed to return to his north Dublin home. Wicklow Mountain Rescue conducted the search along with the Irish Coast Guard Rescue.

Man Dies In Cliffs Of Moher Fall
A man has died in a fall from the Cliffs of Moher in Co Clare. A man, said to be an Indian national student at a Dublin University, is understood to have been attempting to take a photograph at the Cliffs at around 3.15pm when he fell.
