No Go For Galway Park And Ride

An appeal by Galway City Council to build a park and ride facility for almost 700 cars in Oranmore has been rejected by An Bord Pleanála.

The City Council had proposed to build the facility on a three-hectare site, from where a bus service would transport people in and out of the city.

It was ruled by An Bord Pleanála that the development would endanger public safety due to its proximity to an adjacent railway crossing and would also cause a traffic hazard.

The appeal was lodged by Galway City Council after Galway County Council had initially rejected the planning application.
