Pat Moylan Elected Chair of Seanad
Fianna Fáil Senator Pat Moylan has been elected as Cathaoirleach of the Seanad.
Mr Moylan, who is from Co. Offaly and a close associate of Tanaiste Brian Cowan, was elected unopposed when the new Seanad met for the first time since the election on Thursday afternoon.
Frances Fitzgerald became the new leader of Fine Gael in the Seanad, with new Senator Alex White leading Labour in the Upper House.
Former TD Dan Boyle is representing the Green Party, while Pearse Doherty becomes Sinn Féin's first Senator.

An Cathaoirleach, Senator Paddy Burke, has released a statement on the news of the passing of Former TD and Senator Myles Staunton. Mr Staunton, 75, first stood for election at the 1969 general election for the Mayo West constituency. He was elected for Mayo West as a Fine Gael Teachta Dála (TD) at the 1973 general election.

Patients in Ireland are at risk, due to the low uptake of the flu vaccine among healthcare workers, according to Fine Gael Cork North Central Senator, Colm Burke. Burke, who is also Seanad Spokesperson on Health, highlighted the need for healthcare to become more active in halting the spread of the flu in the coming winter months.
