National Ploughing Championships Opens
The National Ploughing Championships opens today in Co Offaly.
The event, one of Europe's biggest agricultural shows, will be held on the 500-acre site at Annaharvey farm near Tullamore.
It is anticipated that the three-day event will attract up to 150,000 spectators from all over the country.
Disinfection measures have been put in place to prevent against foot and mouth and the livestock disease known as Bluetongue.
President Mary McAleese will attend the opening today and Northern Ireland's Deputy First Minister, Martin McGuinness, is expected to attend tomorrow.

South Dublin Farmer's Market Opens Today
The Farmer's Market in south Dublin will be officially opened this afternoon by County Mayor Marie Corr. The market was successfully re-launched in Chambers Square on 22 April. It is located between the Library and Civic theatre, beside the main car park of the Square Shopping Centre.

Longford Road Death Probed
Gardaí at Longford town are investigating a single vehicle fatal road traffic collision which occurred at Bornacoola, Carrick On Shannon, Co Leitrim at approximately 8.21am this morning. A 36-year-old man - who was the only occupant of the 4 X 4 vehicle - was fatally injured as a result of this collision.

Minister Flanagan Hopes Magdalene Women Will Attend Honourary Event
The Minister for Justice and Equality, Charlie Flanagan, has said that he hopes people will attend a gathering of Magdalene women, organised by the voluntary group 'Dublin Honours Magdalenes', for June 5-6. Mr Flanagan said his Department has issued invitations to Magdalene women on behalf of Dublin Honours Magdalenes.
