Firefighters Die In Wicklow Explosion

Two firefighters have been killed and another injured in an explosion in Bray, Co Wickow.

A massive blaze broke out in a disused factory on Lower Dargle Road at around 10.30am this morning.

It is believed the two men died when the roof collapsed as they were tackling the fire.

Several units of the fire service from Bray and Greystones are still at the scene, which has been sealed off for the moment.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Memorial Underway For Bray Firemen
The families of the two firefighters who died in a blaze in Co Wicklow last year are holding a memorial service today (Friday) to mark the first anniversary of the tragedy. Brian Murray, 46, and Mark O'Shaughnessy, 26, died when the roof of a disused industrial building in Bray collapsed while they were tackling a fire in the structure.

Mountjoy Prison Cell Fire
A fire broke out in a cell at Dublin's Mountjoy Prison on Thursday night, according to reports. It is understood that a prisoner had set fire to a cell. However, it is believed that prison staff and fire crews were able to contain the fire quickly. No-one was injured in the incident.

Funerals Held For Bray Firefighters
The funerals of the two firefighters who died last week in Bray take place today and tomorrow. Mark O'Shaughnessy's funeral mass took place this morning and his body will be laid to rest at Springfield Cemetery in Bray. His colleague Brian Murray's remains will be brought later today at the Church of the Holy Redeemer in Bray.
