Compensation For Streisand Concertgoers

Thousands of people who complained about facilities at Barbra Streisand's concert in Co Kildare in July are to receive compensation, the concert promoters have announced.

More than a thousand letters, representing approximately 2,500 people, were received by promoters MCD, complaining about a range of problems, including traffic jams, seating problems, a lack of stewards and mucky conditions at the event, which took place at Castletown House in Cellbridge on July 14.

A committee set up to investigate the complaints delivered its report to the promoters on Thursday.

MCD confirmed that around 200 people who complained that they had to stand during the concert would receive a full refund.

Around 561 people, who complained that they ended up in seats that were cheaper than the ones they had originally paid for, will have the price difference refunded.

A further 383 people who complained about difficulties on site, such as car parking and disruption, will receive a 100 euro voucher.

MCD said that the compensation payouts would be completed by October 19.

Denis Desmond, MCD's Managing Director, said: "Again, I would like to apologise to those concert-goers whose experience at the Barbra Streisand concert at Castletown House was spoiled and not what they should have expected.

"I would like to sincerely thank the members of the committee for their work in compiling this report. Their comments and observations will assist us to ensure that we continue to provide the very best concert experience for our patrons.

"The concert at Castletown House on July 14 took place during a period of unprecedented bad weather and I would like to acknowledge MCD staff, sub-contractors and the statutory authorities including the Garda Siochana and Kildare County Council for their added support and hard work in what were very difficult conditions."
