Ahern Urges Resolution In Aer Lingus Dispute

Taoiseach Bertie Ahern has urged both sides in the Aer Lingus dispute to work together to resolve their differences.

A number of Aer Lingus pilots are facing suspension if they refuse to help train new staff recruited to work out of the airline's new hub in Belfast.

Aer Lingus management have said that pilots are required to help train new staff, but the pilots have said that staff employed in Belfast should have the same working conditions as staff in the Republic.

It is understood that no pilots have been suspended yet, although the deadline for them to begin training new staff was at 10am on Tuesday.

The Irish Airline Pilots Association has indicated that it wants to hold further talks on the issue and are meeting to discuss their position on Tuesday afternoon.
