Murder Inquiry Launched Into Woman's Death In Galway
Gardaí in Galway city have launched a murder investigation after the body of a young woman was found on wasteland in the city.
The body of 18-year-old Manuela Riedo, a student from Bern in Switzerland, was found on waste ground between Lakeshore Drive and Ceannt Railway Station around 9:30am on Tuesday morning by a man walking his dog.
A post-mortem revealed that the teenager had been strangled, but gardaí have not revealed details of any other injuries she may have suffered.
It is understood that Miss Riedo had only recently arrived in Ireland in order to take up a two-week English studies course. She was staying with a host family in the city's Renmore Park area for the duration of the course and was last seen leaving the house around 7:30pm on Monday night.
Her family are understood to be travelling to Ireland from Switzerland.
Gardaí have appealed for information. On Wednesday afternoon they released a description of Miss Reido. She was 5ft 4ins tall, with brown shoulder length hair. When last seen, she was wearing a red and black cardigan, a grey and black herring bone waist length wool coat, grey jeans and calf length black suede boots. She also had a diamond stud in the left side of her nose and carried a large black handbag with a cherry pattern.

Man In Court Over Clontarf Murder
A 41-year-old man is due in court this afternoon charged in connection with the murder of Finbar Dennehy. Mr Dennehy, 50, was found dead in his apartment last Wednesday stabbed to death in Clontarf, Dublin. The suspect has been in police custody since Saturday night when he was arrested by Gardai at a guesthouse in Dublin city centre at around 8pm.

Gardaí in Bray searching for a mother and her toddler son who were missing since the weekend have confirmed that they have been found safe and well. Aoife Ni Raghaill, 35, and her two-year-old son Oscar, from Connolly Square, were last seen in Dublin city centre on August 20.

Gardaí in Dublin have issued a fresh appeal for information about a teenage girl who has been missing since last month. Gugu Sibeko, 15, from Mulhuddart in Dublin has not been seen since July 17. She is described as a black South African girl with black hair and brown eyes. She is of medium build and around 5 ft 5ins tall.

Swiss Students 'Returning Early' Following Murder
The Swiss students who travelled to Galway with Manuela Riedo are to return home early, following her murder, it has been reported. The 42 students, who had come to Galway at the weekend to take part in a two-week English language course, are reported to have travelled to Dublin to return to Switzerland.
