Fianna Fail Debates Ulster Strategy
A timetable for cross-border expansion and a 32-county strategy are top of the agenda for Irish Foreign Affairs Minister Dermot Ahern.
He is to head up a Fianna Fail committee charged with drawing up a policy for the development of the party in Northern Ireland.
The new Northern Strategy Committee will also engage in a public consultation exercise throughout the island of Ireland inviting submissions on its cross-border expansion.
"Arising out of An Taoiseach's recent announcement that Fianna Fail would develop a strategy for organising on a 32 county basis, this committee is now being established to set out practical plans and a timescale to deliver on this historic move," said Dermot Ahern.
"Between now and next Easter, it will conduct an extensive party consultation process, across all units of the organisation,” he said.

FF Won't Back Presidential Candidates

Norris Secures 12 Backers
Independent Senator David Norris has secured the backing of 12 Oireachtas members, just over half of what he needs to gain a place on Presidential ballot papers in the Irish Republic. Senator Katherine Zappone and TD Richard Boyd Barrett are among the parliamentarians to sign Senator Norris's nomination papers.

Academic Watchdog To Investigate College Postgrad Programme
A college, which awarded a postgraduate degree to its own chairman, is to be investigated by the Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI). The academic watchdog is concerned over how the Faln Garvey, the chair of IT Tralee's governing body, received his masters degree in 2008.
