Ireland Stakes A Place At World Food Show

Irish companies are taking part in the world's largest food and drink fair, Anuga, which is currently being held in Germany.

The Minister of State for Food & Horticulture, Trevor Sargent, is in Cologne to promote the export of Irish products at the world-beating exhibition along with 15 businesses from the Republic.

The show is gigantic with 6,607 exhibitors from 95 countries who will present their products and services in an exhibition space of 304,000 square metres. Almost 160,000 visitors from 156 countries attended Anuga's last session.

Mr Sargent said the exhibition is the perfect forum for firms to explore new business opportunities.

Meanwhile, Northern Ireland beef and lamb will also be showcased in Cologne, with the Livestock & Meat Commission again hosting the Northern Ireland meat processing industry, hoping to benefit from being at the first Anuga show without the constraints of a beef export ban in more than 10 years.
