Blaze Destroys Wine Merchant's Warehouse

A fire has left a wine merchant's warehouse in Mullingar badly damaged.

The blaze at the Wines Direct warehouse on Green Road in Mullingar, Co Westmeath broke out on Monday evening.

No-one was injured in the fire, which took more than two hours to bring under control. However, around 60,000 bottles of wine were destroyed.

Wines Direct owner Paddy Keogh told reporters that they had managed to rescue computer equipment and records and had secured alternative premises in order to reopen for business.

However, the web-site says that telephone and online orders will not be processed until next week.

The cause of the fire is not yet known and the fire service is expected to carry out an examination of the scene.
