Man Freed After Fatal Cork Hit-And-Run

A man in his fifties who was arrested in connection with a fatal hit-and-run incident in Co Cork on Tuesday has been released without charge.

Josephine McCarthy, 85, from Main Street in Castlemartyr, died after being struck by a car on the N25 in the village, shortly after 7am on Tuesday. She died in hospital later that day.

A file on the case is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Man Killed In Westmeath Crash Named
A 23-year-old man who died following a road crash in Co Westmeath has been named as Dan Hynes, from Tulsk, Co Roscommon. Mr Hynes was a passenger in a van, which struck a jeep on the Mullingar Road in Delvin around 7am on Tuesday morning. He was taken to hospital, but died later from his injuries.

Cyclist Killed Following Hit-And-Run In Dublin
A man has died following a hit-and-run in Dublin on Tuesday evening. The cyclist, 62, was seriously injured after he was hit by a car on the Clontarf Road at around 6.30pm. Emergency services attended the scene however he was later pronounced dead. The car involved in the crash failed to remain at the scene.

Woman Dies After Cork Hit-And-Run
An 85-year-old woman who was seriously injured in a hit-and-run incident in Co Cork has died in hospital. The woman was struck by a car on the N25 in Castlemartyr village, just after 7am on Tuesday. Gardaí said that the car, described as small and dark-coloured, failed to stop. The driver is being sought.

Two independent investigations have been launched following the death of a 59-year-old man in a workplace accident. The man died following an incident on a building site in Midleton, Co Cork, at approximately 12:49pm on Monday, 08 August, at St Coleman's Community College.

Man Released Following Fatal Hit-And-Run In Dublin
A man who was arrested over a fatal hit-and-run in Dublin has been released without charge. A two-year-old girl was killed in the incident on the North Road in Phoenix Park at approximately 6.30pm on Monday. She died at Temple Street Children's Hospital. A file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
