Moneypoint Dispute Settled

The 200 Polish members of the TEEU working on the Moneypoint power station refit in Co. Clare today voted unanimously to accept the settlement terms of their dispute with ZRE.

The Polish subcontractor which left them stranded with up to six weeks pay arrears has now gone into liquidation.

Meanwhile all of the workers involved have been offered jobs with the main contractor Lentjes at the Moneypoint site, or with other contractors there, including the UK based company AMEC, which is taking over the ZRE contract.

A threatened strike at the ESB Moneypoint plant in Co Clare had earlier been deferred following a second round of talks between ESB, the Technical Engineering and Electrical Union, and contractors Lentjes and ZRE.

Those talks were aimed at solving the dispute over unpaid wages for the Polish workers at the power station.

The TEEU said that the workers, employed by Polish sub-contractor ZRE, had not been paid for six weeks and had been told that their employment has been terminated.
