Russell Found Guilty Over US Students' Deaths

Frederick Russell, who was extradited from Ireland to the US to stand trial over the deaths of three students in a traffic collision, has been found guilty by a court in Washington State.

Russell, 28, had been on trial in Kelso for just over three weeks, charged with vehicular homicide and vehicular assault over a 2001 traffic collision in which three students were killed in Washington state.

Russell was found to be 50% over the legal alcohol limit when the collision occurred and was also said to have been driving over the speed limit.

However, shortly before his original trial date in November 2001, he jumped bail and moved to Dublin, where he lived for several years under an assumed name.

Arrested and extradited last year after he was identified from the FBI's Most Wanted List on the internet, Russell is due to be sentenced in three weeks' time.

He is facing a sentence of between 10 and 14 years.
