Dublin Bus Dispute Continues

The Dublin Bus dispute has entered its fourth day with little sign of a resolution.

Separate talks between officials from the National Bus and Rail Workers' Union (NBRU) and SIPTU and Dublin Bus management were held with Labour Court Chairman Kevin Duffy on Wednesday morning.

According to reports, Mr Duffy will decide whether to hold a further hearing today or tomorrow.

Meanwhile on Thursday, the NBRU said that it would only sanction the spread of industrial action to other depots in Dublin if staff in the depots were balloted on industrial action.

The dispute, which centres on two new bus routes - the 4A from Ballymun to Stradbrook and 128 from Clongriffin to Rathmines - continues to be restricted to the Harristown Bus depot in north Dublin. It began on Monday when more than 100 drivers begin a picket after a female driver was suspended for refusing to drive on one of the new routes, which were to be launched on Monday.

Drivers are also opposed to the company's new scheduling plans, which means that they have to start, take breaks and terminate in the city centre, rather than at the depot.

The main areas affected by the dispute include Finglas, Swords, Ballymun and Blanchardstown with around 60,000 bus passengers affected.
