Man Killed in Laois House Fire
The body of a 70-year-old man has been found in a house destroyed by fire in Co. Laois.
The fire broke out shortly after 2am on Friday morning at a thatched cottage in the Heath, near Portaloise where the man lived alone in the property.
Gardaí forensic experts are at the scene, but they are not believed to be treating the fire as suspicious.
The man's body has been taken from the house and is to be taken to Portlaoise General Hospital.

Man Arrested Over Fatal House Fire Released Without Charge
A man arrested in connection with a fatal house fire in Dublin has been released without charge. A 44-year-old man died in the blaze which happened at a property on Oakland's Terrace, Rathgar, at around 3am on Tuesday, 21 August. It is understood the man had escaped from the fire before returning inside and suffered critical injuries.

Dublin Fire Brigade Responds To 1,100 Calls On Halloween Night
Dublin Fire Brigade has revealed it responded to 1,100 emergency calls during Halloween night. On what is normally the service's busiest night of the year, there were also reports of attacks on fire crews while Dublin Bus was forced to withdraw its service in part of the city.

A fire broke out in a cell at Dublin's Mountjoy Prison on Thursday night, according to reports. It is understood that a prisoner had set fire to a cell. However, it is believed that prison staff and fire crews were able to contain the fire quickly. No-one was injured in the incident.
