Children Die In Longford Crash Tragedy

Two young girls have been killed in a road crash on the outskirts of Edgeworthstown in Co Longford.

The collision happened around 9.30pm on Monday night. The girls, aged nine and six, were travelling in a black BMW that crashed into an embankment on the old N4 at Camlisk.

The nine-year-old girl was pronounced dead at the scene, while the six-year-old girl died later in hospital.

Two women and two other children were also injured in the crash. They were taken to the Midland Regional Hospital at Mullingar for treatment.

One woman has been released, while the other is said to be in a comfortable condition. However, one of the children is in a critical condition, while the other has been transferred to Crumlin Hospital in Dublin.

Gardaí investigators carried out an examination of the scene today.

Over 42,000 Girls Receive HPV Cervical Cancer Vaccine
More than 42,000 girls have been immunised as part of the HPC vacciniation campaign, according to the HSE. The routine programme for first year girls during 2012/2013 has been well received with an uptake rate of 84% for the three vaccine doses, well above the target of 80% uptake rate.

Four Girls In Hospital After Aerosol Explosion
Garda are investigating the circumstances surrounding four girls ending up in hospital after an aerosol exploded in a house in Drogheda on Sunday. The girls are being treated in hospital, two in Crumlin's children's hospital and two in Tallaght, following the incident. Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
