Irish GPs Need Training On Domestic Violence
The Women's Health Council has called for GPs and other 'frontline' healthcare staff to be trained in how to tackle violence against women.
A report just published by the council said health professionals are uniquely placed to help women who regularly access the health service because of increased ill-health and injuries caused by domestic violence.
Support groups say that as many as one in every five Irish women experience domestic violence at some stage in their lives.
European research also shows that more women die or are seriously injured every year through domestic violence than through cancer or road accidents.

Govt Urged To Increase Funding For Domestic Violence Support Services
The government has been urged to substantially increase funding for domestic violence accommodation support services. Sinn Féin TD and spokesperson on Housing, Planning and Local Government, Eoin Ó Broin, made the call following a response from Minister Katherine Zappone to a parliamentary question which showed that Tusla only received €15.

'Significant Increase' In Supports For Victims Of Domestic Violence
Fianna Fáil is to bring forward new legislation aimed at significantly increasing the supports in place for victims of domestic violence. One of the key provisions of the legislation will be to ensure victims of domestic violence are given paid work leave to enable them to put in place practical measures to move on from a violent relationship.
