Charges Against Rhys Meyers Dropped

Public order charges against actor Jonathan Rhys Meyers have been dropped by the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The 30-year-old star of the television series 'The Tudors' had been due to appear before Dublin District Court on Wednesday.

The actor was arrested at Dublin Airport on November 18 before he was due to board a flight to London. He was charged at Whitehall Garda station and later released on bail.

A solicitor for the DPP told the court that they did not wish to proceed with charges and would instead caution the actor.

The caution was accepted by Rhys Meyers' solicitor, who said that his client "absolutely accepts his behaviour was unacceptable and out of character" and apologised to British Midland staff, security staff and gardaí on his behalf.

He said that Rhys Meyers had also offered to make an undisclosed donation to a charity, which was not named in court.
