Drogheda Cancer Misdiagnosis Probed
The HSE has admitted that a woman who was mistakenly given the all-clear for breast cancer should have been given a mammogram.
Alison Kelly was cleared of the disease at the Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda in 2003, but had to undergo a mastectomy two years later.
An external review of her case has found that, if a mammogram had been carried out, it may have led to a different course of action.
Ms Kelly said she only decided to complain about the matter when the Lourdes Hospital was included in a recent HSE list of hospitals that were considered safe for breast cancer care.
