Irish Texters Send 1.89 Billion Messages

Mobile users in Ireland sent 1.89 billion text messages in the third quarter of this year, according to the latest figures from communication regulator ComReg.

The new figures also revealed that there were 114 mobile phones for every 100 people in Ireland.

A 64-year-old has been ordered to pay compensation to a junior cert teenager whom he had sent lewd text messages. The married father-of-two John Geaney of Ballinahina, Co. Cork, pleaded guilty to five counts of sending indecent text messages to the teenager in June 2007.

Ireland €3.7 Billion In The Red
The Finance Minister Brian Lenihan has revealed Ireland's economy is in serious difficulty lying €3.7billion in debt in the first three months of 2009. Preparing for next Tuesday's emergency budget, Mr Lenihan said the deficit was due to a 23% collapse in revenue from income tax and VAT costing almost €2.6billion.

Former Barrister Jailed For 'Creepy' And 'Sexual' Messages
A former barrister has received a three-year jail term for leaving "creepy" and "sexually intimidating" voicemail messages on a younger colleague's mobile phone. 50-year-old Paul McLoughlin, from the North Circular Road originally pleaded not guilty but then admitted what he had done after two days of evidence at the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.
