Road User Alert Over High Winds
Road users, both car drivers and motorcyclists, have been told to take care as high winds lash Ireland.
The call comes shortly after a man in his 20s was killed after crashing a motorcycle in Cork city.
The single-vehicle collision happened on Leitrim Street, leading out onto the North Ring Road, at around 10.30pm on Monday night.
A passenger on the motorcycle was taken to Cork University Hospital with what has been described as non-life threatening injuries.
Gardaí have made an appeal for any witnesses to the crash to contact them at Watercourse Road Garda Station and a forensic examination of the scene is being carried out.
Meanwhile, all road users are being advised to take extreme care on the roads on Tuesday afternoon, with severe weather set to hit many parts of the country.
Met Eireann is predicting strong winds following by heavy rain and showers of hail, sleet and snow.
Ulster, Connacht and North Leinster will bear the brunt of the storm.
The Road Safety Authority says motorists should look out for fallen debris and be wary of strong crosswinds – especially motorcyclists.
