Donegal Driver Escapes As Tree Crushes Car In Storm
A County Donegal woman struck by a falling tree which crushed her car has said she is lucky to be alive.
Madge Lynch got out of her car just seconds before the tree came crashing down outside her St Johnston home.
She was hit by one of the branches and suffered bruising to her leg. Mrs Lynch said it was a frightening experience.
It happened as storm-force winds in excess of 77 miles per hour left thousands of homes without electricity.
More than 6,000 dwellings in neighbouring Northern Ireland were left powerless, with the worst-affected areas around Omagh, Coleraine and Ballymena.
In County Donegal, about 20,000 households were left without power at one stage because of the storms.
