Teenage Rapist Jailed

A Dublin teenager has been sentenced to five years imprisonment for raping a woman in August 2006.

The 19 year-old, John Paul Moore, of St Theresa's Garden in Rialto, admitted raping the 39-year-old- after he tried to rob her while she was on her way to work, near St James' Hospital in Dublin.

Moore asked her for a cigarette before putting his hand around her throat and pushing her up against a wall, demanding money. When the foreign-national replied that she had none he raped her.

The court heard how this incident made the victim feel unsafe in Dublin, causing her to move further south.

When sentencing Moore, Mr Justice Paul Carney considered this as an aggravating factor and directed that Moore undergo three years' post-release supervision.
