Mother Bled To Death While Kids Waited For Party
A 30-year-old Clonakilty woman bled to death while her two young children waited for her return so they could celebrate the eldest's ninth birthday.
A court has heard that Rose Patterson lay bleeding to death in her estranged partner's flat as her daughters remained locked in their own home waiting for her return.
Hadim Kedik (33), who came to Ireland from Turkey to work in a barbershop in Clonakilty in 2002, pleaded not guilty to murdering Ms Patterson between April 11 and 12, last year.
Kedik admitted inflicting the injuries but said he never planned to kill her.
Ms Patterson had taken the couple’s 21-month-old son to Kedik’s flat for a court-ordered access visit on April 11.
However, she was found dead in the flat the following morning having suffered eight stab wounds, while her alleged assailant, Kedik had slashed his own throat and wrists.
Their son was not injured but found bloodstained and sleeping near their bodies.
Gardai then went to Ms Patterson's home and found the girls locked in their home.
The court heard they were not distressed and seemed well cared for.
Garda Deirdre Lyons told the court she had been at Kedik’s flat where she had seen the girl’s baby brother crying and upset while he was photographed and had his blood stained clothing removed.
The trial before Mr Justice Patrick McCarthy in the Central Criminal Court at Dublin resumes on Friday.
