Shannon Reconnected

Air France's new twice-daily City Jet service between Shannon and Paris began operating today, with the first departure at 9.39 this morning.

Local business and tourism authorities hope the flights can help restore international connectivity to the Mid West since last year’s decision by Aer Lingus to transfer its Heathrow routes to Belfast.

Shannon Airport Director Martin Moroney said the new service was a major coup for the airport in the wake of the loss of the Shannon-Heathrow service.

He said: "The majority of passengers booked are business passengers and this fits perfectly with the City Jet model.

"The response from the business community to this service has been extremely positive from the off. We are now looking forward to expanding the service and building on our relationship with our new partners City Jet/Air France."

The new route will provide the mid-west with potential links to 248 destinations via Paris Charles-de-Gaulle Airport.

City Jet, a subsidiary of Air France, which is based in Dublin, will operate the return flights twice a day Mondays through to Fridays and once a day on Saturdays and Sundays.

The 50-seat plane be used today will be replaced with a larger 100-seat capacity aircraft in a month's time.
