Surgeon And Wife Guilty Of Insurance Fraud
A Co Meath consultant surgeon and his wife have been found guilty of defrauding two insurance companies through false breast cancer claims.
Dr Emad Massoud (aged 52) and his wife Gehan Massoud (aged 45), a nurse, of Woodview, Brownstown, Ratoath, were found guilty by Dublin Circuit Criminal Court of defrauding the two companies of over €700,000 five years ago.
The jury of seven men and four women deliberated for two hours to return the guilty verdicts on day 15 of the trial.
The couple pleaded not guilty to intent to defraud the insurance companies by falsely pretending that Mrs Massoud had suffered breast cancer.
The Massouds obtained €685,658 from Scottish Provident Ltd on March 25, 2002 and €45,338 on February 22, 2002 from Lifetime Assurance Company Ltd.
Judge Patrick McCartan remanded Dr Massoud in custody to be sentenced in March, while his wife has been remanded on continuing bail.

Firm Guilty In Meath Bus Crash
One of the two companies on trial over the Meath bus crash at the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court has pleaded guilty to a charge arising from it. Keltank Ltd, based in Balbriggan in Dublin, was responsible for servicing the bus involved in the accident, which happened just over three years ago.

Irish Companies Achieve €14bn Of Exports
Enterprise Ireland’s Annual Report and Accounts for 2010 shows that Irish companies achieved €14bn export sales in 2010. Within that, Irish companies achieved a record €1.95bn of new export sales. This represents a strong rebound and recovery of 70% of the exports lost in 2009.
