Court Orders Gilligan Property To Be Seized

The High Court has ordered the Criminal Assets Bureau (CAB) to take possession of a house and an equestrian centre at Jessbrook owned by convicted drug dealer John Gilligan and his family.

Mr Justice Kevin Feeney said this order also applied to three other properties in west Dublin owned by the Gilligans.

The property portfolio, worth €5m, is registered in the names of Gilligan, his ex-wife, son and daughter.

The CAB is seeking to dispose of the properties under the Proceeds of Crime Act.

Mr Justice Kevin Feeney decided that Jessbrook had not been abandoned and was the primary residence of Mrs Gilligan, directing that she be allowed to live there pending the outcome of other court proceedings.

The judge also found the house in Blanchardstown was the primary residence of Darren Gilligan, John Gilligan's son.

John Gilligan and lawyers for his wife and children indicated they would be appealing the decision and costs have been reserved.
