Spanish Police Probe Irish Drug Dealer Shooting

Police in Spain are investigating the murder of a man, believed to be a prominent Irish drug dealer, on the Costa del Sol.

Patrick Doyle, from Dublin's inner city, was shot dead after the car in which he was travelling was ambushed in the southern resort town of Estepona yesterday.

He was travelling in a four-wheel drive vehicle with two other Irish men when they were fired on by another car at around 2pm Monday afternoon.

A police source in Dublin said an estimated four shots were fired into the windshield and one through a side door of the black BMW 4x4, causing it to crash into a lamp post. Doyle was shot twice in the head when he tried to escape.

Police are now searching for the man's two companions, one of whom is reported to have been injured in the attack.

Doyle (27) was known to gardaí as a violent and dangerous individual with a significant criminal record. He is believed to be involved in the feuding gangs in the Crumlin / Drimnagh area of Dublin.

Gardaí believe that this incident may be linked to the attempted murder of Martin Foley in Dublin last Saturday week and are monitoring the situation.
