Man Found Guilty Of Clonakilty Murder

A man has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of his estranged partner, Rose Patterson.

Hadim Kedik was found guilty by a jury of eight men and four women, at the Central Criminal Court.

The 33-year-old, who came to Ireland from Turkey to work in a barbershop in 2002, pleaded not guilty to murdering Ms Patterson between April 11 and 12, last year.

The court had been told Ms Patterson had taken the couple’s 21-month-old son to Kedik’s flat for a court ordered access visit on April 11. She was found dead in the flat the following morning having suffered eight stab wounds. Their son was not injured but found bloodstained and sleeping near their bodies.

Kedik admitted inflicting the injuries but said he never planned to kill her. He claimed that after being pushed twice, he picked up a black-handled knife and swung it at Ms Patterson two or three times.

The court was read a statement from Ms Patterson's family which said she had loved and cared for her children dearly and that the biggest impact would be on them.

Mr Justice Patrick McCarthy backdated the life sentence to 16 April last year.
