Bouncer Shot For Turning Away Gang Member
A nightclub bouncer has been shot in Dublin after refusing entry to a man reported to be a member of a feuding gang.
Gardai arrested a 23 year old man in connection with the shooting. During a violent arrest, two confrontations with the man left one officer with a broken hand, while another was punched in the face.
It is understood that the arrested man is currently on bail for another offence.
The man is also understood to be a member of one of the gangs involved in the Drimnagh and Crumlin feud, but the shooting of the bouncer is not believed to be connected with the feud.
The shooting took place in the early hours of Sunday night at the Hush nightclub in the Moran's Red Cow Hotel on the Naas Road, Clondalkin. After being turned away by the bouncer, the man is reported to have walked away before taking a pistol from his tracksuit bottoms and firing a single shot at the doorman.
The injured doorman was rushed for treatment to Tallaght hospital. Gardai said yesterday that his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
Yesterday gardai appealed for information from anyone who was in the area at the time of the shooting. They are particularly interested in speaking to a man and a young boy who were near the doorway at the time of the incident.
Anyone with any information has been asked to contact Clondalkin gardai on (01) 6667635 or (01) 6667600 or the garda confidential line on 1800 666 111.
