Man Not Guilty In Coolock Murder Case
A 42-year-old man has been found not guilty of the murder of a man in Coolock in 2005.
Peter Dolan, from Tulip Court in Darndale, had denied murdering Raymond Brown and assaulting another man, Emmett Taaffe, during a disturbance in Clonshaugh Drive in Coolock on April 2, 2005.
Mr Dolan was also cleared of the assault charge.
During the trial, the court heard how the disturbance was sparked by Mr Brown and Mr Taaffe attacking a group of teenagers with a baseball bat after Mr Taaffe's brother had been hit with a crutch earlier the same evening.
It is understood that Mr Dolan became involved in the disturbance when his friend, Noel Courtney, stepped in to defend his son, who had been involved in the fighting.
The jury had been told that it would have to consider defences of self-defence and provocation.
