Daíl Gay Rights Demonstration Planned
A demonstration demanding equality in marriage rights for same-sex couples is to take place at the Daíl this afternoon.
Campaigners LGBT Noise are planning to deliver 1,000 messages to the Taoiseach demanding equal marriage rights for all.
The government are currently seeking to set-up a civil partnership scheme for homosexual and lesbian couples but campaigners claim the proposed system is “inferior”.
This is not the first such 'pink' demonstration. Last December, the alleged lack of rights that gay couples have in the Republic of Ireland was highlighted when the pressure group took to the streets of Dublin to protest for the first time.
Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgendered (LGBT) Noise continues to demand full civil marriages for gay people, something the Irish government has been ruling out as contrary to the country's constitution.
During the earlier event, some 50 members of LGBT Noise were joined by gay choir Gloria at their protest, where they asked passersby to sign a petition supporting their aims.
