Air Traffic Controllers Consider Roster Recommendation
Air traffic controllers are considering a recommendation by the Labour Court today, in a bid to end the ongoing dispute over staffing levels.
The recommendation was issued on Monday night and it is hoped that will help to resolve the row over staffing levels, rosters and overtime for the controllers.
Controllers withdrew from a voluntary overtime scheme in January, which caused disruptions to flights. However, plans for an official overtime ban and a 24-hour strike planned for next Thursday were called off on Monday.
Labour Court Chairman Kevin Duffy has recommended that controllers should make themselves available for call-out on 12 days of the year, with them only able to be called into work up to a maximum of eight days.
Controllers would then receive an allowance of €4,000 a year for making themselves available.
The scheme would be subject to a review in 18 months once new recruits, who are training, become available.
The Impact union said that the recommendation contained some positive elements. and their members are meeting today in Dublin, Shannon and Cork.
