Officer Remains Seriously Ill In Hospital

Two young men were killed yesterday as they sped the wrong way down one of the busiest roads causing a crash which left an off-duty garda seriously injured.

The officer, who is in a serious condition in hospital, was driving home after finishing work when the car the pair were travelling in ploughed into his vehicle just after 6am on the N7 Naas Road near Dublin.

The Garda Ombudsman Commission launched an investigation at the time but later handed it back to the gardai after discovering the two men, aged 19 and 20, had travelled the wrong way down the motorway.

The crash happened shortly after 6am between the Citywest and Rathcoole exits.
