Plans For Dublin Young Offenders Centre Unveiled
Plans to construct a new young offenders detention centre in County Dublin have been announced by the Irish Minister for Children.
A new complex in Lusk is to be built on a 'phased basis' over the next few years. When complete, it is expected it will accommodate 167 offenders aged between 12 and 18.
The first phase of the centre will see the transfer of prisoners from St Patrick’s Institution in Dublin. However, there has been widespread criticism of the plans, with some critics saying it is an "inappropriate" situation to place teenagers who break the law.
