Storms Disrupt Power Supplies

Ireland has been badly hit by bad weather which has left thousands of homes without electricity this morning following high winds across the country overnight.

The majority of the damaged power lines are in Donegal, Sligo and Mayo, where gusts of 135km/h were recorded at the height of the storm.

Parts of the Irish midlands are also affected, while around 1,000 homes in the North have experienced disruption to their supplies.

Repair crews will be working on both sides of the border throughout the morning in an effort to reconnect all customers.

Meanwhile, motorists are being urged to drive with extra caution today as a severe weather warning remains in place across the country.

Fallen trees have been reported on many roads.
