Dad Can't Afford To Bury Murdered Daughter

The father of murder victim, Lorraine White cannot afford the £3,000 fee to bring his daughter home to Wigan from Callan in Ireland for burial.

73-year-old James Hartley, who lives on income support says he has had no contact from gardaí since Lorraine’s death on 8 March.

Lorraine White (42) had been brutally raped and beaten at her home in Callan, Co Kilkenny, and died as a result of her injuries.

The mother-of-five died during surgery at St Luke's Hospital in Kilkenny hours after the vicious attack in the early hours of Saturday morning. It is believed Ms White had been driven to the hospital and left outside by her attacker who then drove off.

Now, her father, Mr. Hartley said: “I want to bury Lorraine in a cemetery here, otherwise I could never get to visit her grave.”

“I have already had a lot of heartache in my life and now my daughter has been murdered, I just can’t take it in.

“I have been trying to contact the British Embassy to have her body brought home.”

He is faced with a £1,000 bill to transport Lorraine’s body home and £2,000 for a grave and burial.

Lorraine moved to Callan two years ago with an Irish man she met in Wigan.

Lorraine’s sister Maureen Harris said: “Lorraine was a belting girl, always full of the joys of spring. She was lots of fun. We are all devastated and are just trying to cope day-to-day.”

Lorraine who suffered the loss of her 15-year-old son in 2000 came from a large Wigan family of four brothers and four sisters.
