Publication Provides Property Propriety Probe

The extent of TD’s property holdings has been revealed with the publishing of the list of members' Interests.

Former Fianna Fáil Minister Frank Fahey emerged as the leading property owner in the Dáil with seven apartments in Ireland and the US, and a part ownership in a further 22 in Ireland, France and Belgium.

The Galway TD also revealed his considerable portfolio included seven houses in Ireland and Dubai, and an interest in a major construction company.

Fine Gael TD Alan Shatter revealed his joint ownership of some 15 properties in Dublin, London and Florida and a formidable portfolio of shares and investments.

His colleague, Health Spokesman Dr James Reilly, declared a portfolio of commercial and agricultural property, including two farms of 80 and 150 acres each.

Junior Minister Sean Haughey registered ownership of two duplex apartments in north Dublin and 29 investment interests and shares in Ireland, the UK and Europe.

Most ministers however declared little or no property in their entries.

Property Prices Increase Nationwide In August
Residential property price rose by 2.3% across Ireland in August, according to the Central Statistics Office (CSO). New figures from the Residential Property Price Index shows that this is a 0.9% increase from July and a 0.1% rise from June. In Dublin, prices rose by 2.8%, an 8.2% increase than the same period last year.

Dublin Property Prices Rise But Prices Fall Nationally
There has been an 8% rise in property prices in Dublin in the last 12 months, according to the Central Statistics Office (CSO). The figures show that in July, residential property prices increased by 3.3%, an 8% increase on the same period last year. Nationally, property prices have fallen by 13.

Drop In Irish Property Value
Residential property prices fell by 16.7% in the year to December, according to the Central Statistics Office (CSO) Ireland. This compares with an annual rate of decline of 15.6% in November and a decline of 10.5% recorded in the year to December 2010. In Dublin residential property prices dropped by 2.4% in December and were 19.
