Airport Worker Dies In Tragic Accident

An aircraft maintenance worker has died from fatal injuries as he was de-icing a jet at Dublin Airport on Wednesday.

The 58 year-old man who was described as a 'veteran' died of injuries sustained in the accident, reportedly in front of his girlfriend who was working alongside him.

While de-icing the plane, the man slipped and fell at 4.30am on Wednesday morning and suffered serious head injuries. He was rushed to Beaumont Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The Health and Safety Authority has begun an investigation into the accident.

A spokeswoman for SR Technics said the man had been employed by the company for many years, and added: "It's a very sad day for all of us."

A spokesman for CityJet expressed condolences to the man's family, adding it will also be taking part in the investigation.

"We're not sure what caused the accident but we will assist SR Technics to establish what happened," he said.

Garda Appeal For Witnesses To Fatal Road Accident

Second Dublin Transport Accident Injuries Man
A man in his 60s has been hit by a Luas tram at St Stephen's Green in Dublin. It is the second such incident in as many days for Dublin's public transport department. The collision happened around 2.00pm on Tuesday afternoon. Gardaí say the man sustained superficial injuries and was taken to St James's hospital.

Man And Woman Rescued From Island After Boating Accident
Rescuers have found two people alive and recovered the body of a third off the coast of west Cork. It is understood that that two men and a woman left Schull harbour on a yacht on Wednesday afternoon but failed to return later that evening as expected. An air and sea rescue operation was launched to search for the yacht.
