Young Girl Shot In Feud

An eight year-old girl has been injured after a gun attack on her Grandparent's home.

The girl who is in a stable condition in hospital was injured during a visit to her grandparent's house. The house in Knather, near Ballyshannon in Donegal, was shot from the woods and is the third gun attack in the area in two years.

There is believed to be an on-going feud in the area, which sparked the attack. Two bedrooms at the back of the house were riddled with bullets from what is believed to be a high-velocity weapon capable of discharging several bullets in rapid succession, according to Garda ballistics.

In a previous attack, shots were fired into a jeep outside the house at Knather. While a house owned by another member of the same family in a rural area on the other side of the town was hit by gunfire last year. Nobody was injured in either of those attacks.

Gardaí refused to comment on the nature of the feud, but it is believed that it involves one member of the family and dissident republicans.
