New Hospital For Navan

Navan has been put forward by leading consultants as the location for the new Hospital in the North East.

The Health Service Executive will receive the report on Friday detailing the new location for the new regional hospital, which is favoured to replace the exiting five acute hospitals spread throughout the region.

Fine Gael TD, Fergus O'Dowd, however slammed the move, saying the recommendation is from an "unelected, unaccountable, unnamed" source and shouldn't be accepted.

There was much speculation that two locations in Co Louth were favourite: Ardee, where the HSE has a considerable land bank, or somewhere near Drogheda where the largest hospital in the north east, Our Lady of Lourdes, is located.

The new hospital will provide A&E services for the whole region and is planned to be a state of the art facility.

The HSE says it has yet to take a decision on the location of the hospital and has yet to receive a report on the matter from independent consultants.
